Finlog

Changelog

Finlog 1.0.19

The Dashboard is back, rebuilt: keep several named dashboards, arrange 25 panels with live previews, start from a template, share or import a dashboard's layout as a file without your numbers, and take a short tour to learn your way around. On Reports, the "Net spend by month" chart now shows its total and peak, and its bars can be focused with the keyboard.

Contexts can now have dates, banks add checking and savings together, and Settings asks before you reuse a name. Contacts are the default for new people with an editable relationship, the sidebar button stays put after full screen, and new households get a tidier category list.

Finlog 1.0.17

Setting up a new household is clearer: a step bar you can click to move between steps, a summary card before you create, error messages that say how to fix things and disappear once you do, and if you quit halfway, Finlog offers to pick up where you left off.

Finlog 1.0.16

Settings has a new layout: the section list stays put while you scroll, lists have an Archived view, search and a ⋯ menu that says when something can't be deleted and why, Categories open in a two-pane browser with Spending and Income kept apart, there are more icons and colors to choose from, and Appearance shows a preview of each theme.

Finlog 1.0.15

Opening Transactions no longer flashes a loading layout before your list or welcome screen appears, and switching between the placeholder tabs keeps their floating card where it was.

Finlog 1.0.14

The sidebar is new: it runs the full height of the window, groups screens into Insights and Planning, shows which screens are still being built, and hides completely when you want the room (rest the pointer on the left edge to bring it back). Scrolling a long list no longer bounces the whole window.

Finlog 1.0.12

Importing a file with two identical purchases (same day, shop and amount) no longer skips the second one when the first was already imported. It's kept and flagged as repeated so you can check it.

When your bank re-exports a transaction you already imported with slightly different wording, the import review now says "Possibly already imported — description changed" instead of calling it a possible duplicate of a manual entry.

Import now flags a row as a possible duplicate of a transaction you entered by hand even when the bank dates it up to three days apart, so a purchase you logged on the day isn't imported twice when it posts later.

The ✨ tooltip on a suggested category now says where it came from: a bank category you've mapped before, the bank's own category, or your history with that merchant. It no longer always credits your import history.

Importing a statement is now one calm screen: questions first, everything else ready to go, with undo for every bulk change.

Importing a statement now starts each transaction's Whose at the account's owner, and you can change it right from the list. The final Import step opens in the middle of the window, the list's header floats clear of the top as you scroll, and the category chart keeps neighbouring categories apart.

Transactions has a new look: totals that follow your filters, categories you can set right from the list, and an editor that leads with what you're editing.

Finlog now opens in a larger, centred window and remembers its size and position between launches.

Category pills in Transactions and import review now respond when you hover, press or open them, so it is clear they can be clicked to change the category.

The empty Transactions screens (before your first transaction, before you add an account, and when the list cannot load) have a friendlier design, with gently floating artwork and clearer next steps.

Dashboard, Household, Reports, Budgets and Owed are set aside while each is redesigned. Their tabs now show what each screen is for and whether it is coming soon, under construction or in planning.

Opening a picker from the keyboard now always moves focus into its list, so the arrow keys work straight away, even while Finlog is busy.

Finlog 1.0.5

Account types now read clearly — Credit card, Payment app, Loan / mortgage and more — across setup and Settings. The Accounts step in setup folds finished accounts into tidy one-line rows, and its Type and Owner pickers match the rest of the app.

Finlog 1.0.1

Reports, Household and the dashboard now say "Refunds & credits" where they subtract both from your spending, matching how the transaction list tells refunds and credits apart.

Settings → Updates now shows more about your copy of Finlog: the build, the update channel, where it's installed, your macOS version and chip, the database schema, and when your data was last backed up before an update.

Finlog 1.0.0

The first public release of Finlog, the household-finance app for macOS. It checks for updates on its own and installs them when you say so.
